NOTICE OF RACE
Spring Series 2010
April 5th 11th, 18th, 25th & 1st May
Kinsale Yacht Club
The Spring Series will be hosted by the Kinsale Yacht Club
and will be sailed in the waters in the vicinity of the Old Head.

1 RULES:
1.1 The Regatta will be sailed under the current RRS (2009 – 2012) and the
following rules:
a. ISA prescriptions.
b. The IRC Rules 201O.
c. The Progressive ECHO handicapping System.
d. SCORA rules 2010.
e. ISAF OSR Cat 4, less storm sails.
1.2 Where there is a conflict between the Notice of Race and the sailing
instructions, the sailing instructions shall prevail.
2 ADVERTISING:
Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the
organizing authority.
3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY:
3.1 This Regatta is an open event and is open to all boats that hold a valid
IRC or ECHO handicap certificate.
3.2 Classes will be divided on the basis of their IRC TCF.
The anticipated Class Divisions are as follows:
Class 0 1.055 and above Numeral Pennant 0
Class I 0.980 to 1.054 Numeral Pennant 1
Class II 0.921 to 0.979 Numeral Pennant 2
Class III 0.860 to 0.920 Numeral Pennant 3
Class IV 0.859 and below. Numeral Pennant 4
White sail TBC appropriate pennant below WS pennant
3.3 Boats that fall within 1.5% of the TCC cut off point for any class, and were
affected by the 2008 changes to the SCORA Class Bands, may chose to sail
in the Class that the boat would have been in prior to the 2008 change;
provided that the boat raced, held a valid IRC or ECHO Certificate, and
remains in the same ownership, as in 2007 prior to the changes being
introduced.

3.3 The cut off date for validation of IRC certificates is Friday 26th March. Valid
certificates issued after this date will only be accepted at the discretion of the
race committee. No cert no Result and results will not be back dated.
3.4 Entry Forms must be received before Saturday 3rd April. Entry Forms will
be available at the KYC Race Office and on the KYC website.

Late entries will be subject to a late entry fee of €50.
4 Crew Limits:
4.1 Crew limits for the series will be IRC +1 for Class O and IRC+2 for
all other IRC and echo classes. No crew limit applies for white sail
classes.
5. Safety Rules:
5.1 All Boats in the IRC and ECHO classes shall comply with the ISAF
offshore special regulations Category 4 less the requirement to carry storm
sails. Heavy weather jibs must however be carried. Random inspections will
take place during the series.
5.2 Copies of the Special Regulations are available from the ISAF website at
http://www.sailing.org.
6 FEES:
6.1 The entry fee for this Regatta shall be €100. Cheques should be made
payable to Kinsale Yacht Club.
7 SCHEDULE:

7.2 Number of Races:
The Regatta will comprise a total of 9 races, 2 races per day over four
weekends and one coastal race as scheduled. The OD may sail more than
the number of prescribed races per day at his discretion; however no more
than two races will be sailed on the last day.
7.3 The final race on the last day is non-discardable.
8 RATING CERTIFICATES
Valid IRC certificates are required to race in IRC Classes. Valid Echo
certificates are required for all Echo classes.
No Cert – No result.

9 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
The Sailing Instructions will be available after 0900 hrs on March 1st 2010 at
KYC race office and on http://www.kyc.ie
10 VENUE & COURSES
10.1 It is intended to use two race start areas with fleets alternating between
each start area each weekend throughout the Spring Series.

10.2 The start area for windward leeward courses will be approximately 1-
mile East of the Bullman Buoy in the vicinity of the Sovereign laid racing buoy.
This may vary depending on the prevailing wind conditions. The OD will clarify
his approximate location on the morning of each race day on the relevant
course VHF channel. Boats racing course A sail on a windward leeward
course using laid marks. Detail of these courses will be set out in the Sailing
Instructions.
10.3 The start area for the round the cans and the coastal courses will be in
the vicinity of Harbour Mark at the entrance to Kinsale Harbour. Courses for
both race types will be bound by the Cork Buoy to the East and Black Tom to
the West. Marks shall be KYC permanent laid racing marks and local
navigation buoys.
11 SCORING:
11.1 The Low Point System of Appendix A will apply, with the exception of the
final race of the day on May 1st
which will be non discardable.
11.2 Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
11.3 When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat’s series score
will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When from five to nine races have been completed, a boat’s series score
will be the total of her race scores including the final race excluding her worst
score.
11.4 All races will be scored for SCORA league 2010.
12 BERTHING:
12.1 Subject to availability, complimentary berths or swinging moorings will be
provided to visiting Boats to Kinsale from Friday 2nd April 2010 to Monday 3rd
May 2010.
12.2 For berthing arrangements please contact the KYC Marina Manager at

13 RADIO COMMUNICATIONS:
13.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions
while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all competing
boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
13.2 Race Area VHF Channels
(a) VHF Channel 69 will be used for race management at Race Area A.
(b) VHF Channel 72 will be used for race management at Race Area B

14 PRIZES:
14.1 Daily 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded to boats in each class.
14.2 Overall Prizes will be awarded to 1st 2nd and 3rd in each class of the
Spring Series 2010.
14.2 Final prize giving for the Spring Series Regatta will take place at the
prize giving gala dinner on Saturday 1st May in Kinsale Yacht club house.
15 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:
The Safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be
the sole responsibility of the owner/competitor racing the boat. He/She must
ensure that the boat and her crew are adequate to face the conditions that
may arise in the course of the Regatta. Neither the establishment of the
required safety regulations nor the inspection of any boat in any way limits or
reduces the absolute responsibility of the owner/competitor for their crew,
boat and the management thereof.
16 INSURANCE:
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance
with a minimum cover of € 2,000,000 per Regatta or the equivalent.
