Posted in Calves Week News - July 29 2009

With over eighty confirmed entries at present, the 2009 Calves Week in Schull is again expected to top the one hundred mark for the annual West Cork festival of sailing.

This year’s event incorporates the Mc Williams One South Coast Championship, which will be sailed in both Baltimore and Schull from Sunday 2nd August to Tuesday the 4th.

The Crosshaven /Fastnet/Schull overnight race starts from Weavers Point at 19.00h on Friday July 31st, while the White Sail fleet will have a 08.00h start from Kinsale on Saturday morning.

Principle race officer, Neill Prendeville hopes to combine a series of courses using the natural marks of Roaring Water Bay, together with laid courses off Long Island.

The first race from Schull will start on Sunday 2nd, when the fleets will sail a variety of courses which will all finish in Baltimore in the late afternoon. Some of the boats will stay overnight, while the full fleet will return for Monday’s regatta before heading back to Schull for Tuesday’s final race of the SCORA championships.

Wednesday will provide a well earned rest when the crews “leave their hair down” at the Cape Clear island fun regatta.

On Thursday the racing returns to Schull, while on Friday the fleet will round the Fastnet Rock before finishing in Crookhaven, where boats remain overnight for the following days regatta.

The exhausting week finally concludes on Sunday 9th with Schull regatta. The closing ceremony and overall presentation of trophies takes place in the Harbour View Hotel at 18.30h.
