The build up to Calves Week was evident over the weekend, with the arrival of boats from both the east and west coast, many of whom combine a short holiday before beefing up the crews for the opening race of the series on August Sunday.
The event is expected to attract up to a thousand sailors and friends, to the West Cork area, in what will be a major tourist lift for the businesses of Schull, Baltimore and Crookhaven, in a season which has been so far, slow to start.
The opening overnight offshore race for the cruiser classes, taking in the Fastnet Rock, starts from Weavers Point in Crosshaven at 19.00h on Friday 31st July, while the White Sail fleet will have a 08.00 start from Kinsale on Saturday morning.
Both races have a cut off time of 18.00 Saturday, just ahead of the opening reception in the Harbour View Hotel in Schull at 18.30.
